Intro

Hello! My name is Kristiana Kirk. I recently graduated Northern Arizona University with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Cybersecurity. I grew up in Colorado most of my life, but I am from China. While I enjoy school and learning about different aspects of Computer Science, I also enjoy other activities. I love to rock climb, hike, bike, and spend time with loved ones. Fun fact, I have hiked two 14ers! It was such a beautiful thing and I accomplished a personal goal of hiking one. I am a huge cat lover as well. One skill I have acquired during school is snowboarding! I personally love the snow and just going down the mountain. One thing I learned is to not be afraid to try new things, whether that is in your career or personal life.

Work

Chick-Fil-A Assistant Manager

Colorado Springs | July 2019 - Current

As an assistant manager for Chick-Fil-A, I work with financials, guests, catering orders, and more. I am able to manage the drive-thru team during my shift and handle complaints professionally. I get the opportunity to train new co-workers on positions in the store. I serve guests quickly while maintaining a positive attitude. Commication is a strong skill of mine as I have to communicate clearly with co-workers and other managers on shift.

OpenSource Gamification

Northern Arizona University | Feb. 2024 - May 2024

During this time period, I worked with a team to investigate gamification elements and their benefits to students as a part of the learning and engagement process. The first thing we got to do was develop a GitHub Bot within my repository that communicated, listened, and displayed the stats when asked. From then, our team explored ways to visualize GitHub quests within a repository. I was tasked with the map of quests so that people could visualize where they were within the quests as well as the users stats. For the user stats, we went ahead and did an SVG. With this SVG, it went into our MongoDB database and pulled the user's information from that. From there, it would display it on the GitHub page so they were able to see their stats. They are continuing this project into Fall 2024 and I am excited to see the final result as we are all passionate about students learning how to use GitHub.

ITS Student Technology Center Worker

Northern Arizona University | Aug 2022 - May 2024

At the student tecnology center, we assists students, faculty, and staff with a variety of technology issues, including Canvas, troubleshooting wireless and wired internet connections within the residence halls, Google Workspace for Education, and PeopleSoft/LOUIE over the phone, in-person, through email, and using remote assistance tools. Support is provided 24x7 during the fall and spring semesters. We recently were rewarded as the 2022-2023 Student Employee Team of the Year!

NAU Computer Science Grader

Northern Arizona University | Jan 2022 - May 2024

As a grader for Computer Science II and Data Structures, I am able to provide feedback to students weekly on their code. This helps me keep up with current coding practices and learn different ways the students would do the code.

Projects

1. RedPen

This project was proposed and is sponsored by Dr. Erika Konrad at Northern Arizona University, and is a professor of graduate courses in grammar and technical-writing. Our project -- dubbed the name RedPen -- is an interactive quiz editing web application. The application is meant to take after the features from the New York Times' Copy Edit This! The following points are some of the main problems with Copy Edit This! that were noticed by Dr. Konrad:

  • It has a set group of quizzes to choose from for an instructor assigning them.
  • An instructor does not have any view in which they can create a class, and view the results of their students.
  • The cost of the application is not desired by our sponsor nor her students.
  • So, we a custom web application to address these problems and the professor, for her classes, can create custom quizzes and view the results of her students throughout the semesters.

    2. Golf-N-Stuff

This project was developed for our Software Engineering Class. Our team decided to develop a minature golf game which could be played from any computer browser that was connected to the enternet. In order to do this, we utalized Unity, itch.io, and some free resource packages that we found online. Through the semester, we were able to accomplish it. In the team, we had a manager, quality assurance, and the team. I was the quality assurance person, which meant I reviewed the pull requests and pulled it to the main branch. I also was in charge of submitting our Deliverables and making sure everyone was on top of their tasks. I also helped with some UI and terrain for the game. I had never touched Unity before, so this project was a stuggle at first but I had a great team that helped me through learning Unity. The main thing I learned from this project is communcation is key. We struggled at this during the beginning of the project because we did not know each other and did not want to step on other peoples toes. Towards the end, we were able to ask each other for help and see where our project was going. Overall, this project taught me how to work in a team enviroment and really use the agile methodology we learned in class.

    2. Bookify

This project was developed for my Web Development II Class. The purpose of Bookify is to provide an online platform for users to explore, purchase, and read books convenietly. We based this project off of Kindle/Apple Books. Bookify has a user-friendly interface that encourages user to browse books, search/discovery, user registration, shopping cart and checkout, and users should be able to manage their profile. In this project, I took on the role of team lead along with developer since it was a small project. I developed the search bar, shopping cart/checkout, and the styling the books and website. I had not used React before, so we struggled with putting it onto GitHub as well as update it each time. This project used React and Node JS, along with the understanding of API and mongoDB. This project helped me learn more about how to use mongoDB, Node JS, React, and implement the database to get information. Overall, this project taught me how to use my agile methods I attained from Software Engineering and learned how to make the foundation of this website using a new language.
